Saving Cinderella: A Poverty-Fighting Musical

What is the Hero Family Experience?
The Hero Family Experience is a groundbreaking storytelling and engagement program that brings families with lived experience in poverty into the center of theatrical creation.
Through this experience, participants are not just audience members—they are Lived Experience Consultants (LECs) helping to shape the message, the music, and the movement behind Saving Cinderella, a Broadway-bound musical about poverty, resilience, and transformation.
If you’re a business, talk about how you started and share your professional journey. Explain your core values, your commitment to customers and how you stand out from the crowd. Add a photo, gallery or video for even more engagement.
Why This Matters
Too often, stories about poverty are told about people—not by them.
The Hero Family Experience flips the script. It puts families with lived experience at the heart of an artistic process that’s aiming to change public narratives, challenge bias, and build empathy through story.
How our Hero Families drive impact :
-
Representation leads to transformation. When families help create the art, it reflects deeper truths—and audiences feel it. Our Hero Families aren’t actors—they’re architects of emotional truth.
-
It’s about voice and visibility. Many of our participants have never had a platform to share their story in a public space. This program gives them tools, language, and a powerful spotlight.
-
It’s leadership development in disguise. By consulting on performance content, participating in feedback sessions, and leading community conversations, Hero Families become co-creators and change-makers—not just guests.
-
It’s healing. It’s connection. It’s joy. This isn’t just about a stage. It’s about laughter in the rehearsal room, tears during reflection, pride during applause. Families build bonds, reclaim their narratives, and feel seen.
-
It’s a national-stage moment. Select Hero Family members will have the chance to join the cast and creative team for a New York City experience in August 2024, bringing their insights to a broader stage and helping raise the profile of this important work.
